Oswego County Presents Commendation to Mexico ROTC

The Oswego County Legislature recognized Mexico High School's Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps and Drill Team (MCJROTC) during its November meeting. The team marched to historic success in April 2011 when they ranked 5th Best Drill Team during a national competition in Florida. The 30-member team won five overall meet titles and 44 trophies in 2011. They include 29 first-place, 9 second-place and 6 third-place honors, making it the most successful drill team in the history of the program. These accomplishments affirm the team's mastery of drill and ceremonies and attest to the dedication, discipline and passion of its members as well as its leadership, families and community. The Mexico High School's MCJROTC program was established in 1996 to instill in students the value of citizenship, service to country, personal responsibility and sense of accomplishment. At hand to receive the commendation were from left: Marine Corps Lt. Col. John Freda (ret.), program leader of the Mexico ROTC unit; Cadet Captain James Harrington, deputy commander of the Mexico ROTC unit; Cadet Major Jessica Locci, commander of the Mexico ROTC unit; Oswego County Legislature Chairman Barry D. Leemann, District 4, Marine Corps veteran; and Legislature Minority Leader Michael K. Kunzwiler, District 18, Marine Corps veteran.
