OSWEGO - The H. Lee White Marine Museum's signature event, "A Titanic Affair," begins at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 14. This elegant gala features first-class meal service, enchanting period music, ballroom dancing and interactive costumed actors at the beautifully historic American Foundry, 246 West Seneca Street, Oswego. Alliance Bank, a longtime supporter of the marine museum, is the main sponsor for this grand event.

"We are thrilled to have Alliance Bank 'on board' for this once-in-a-lifetime experience," stated Mercedes Niess, executive director of the H. Lee White Marine Museum. "The story of the Titanic brings people together and connects them in a way that few events in our history have. This is going to be a special evening and we are encouraging people to purchase their tickets as soon as possible."

Alliance Bank Vice President Barbara Bateman added, "Alliance Bank is proud to support the H. Lee White Marine Museum for this creative and fun event. The Titanic has been of interest to many over these past 100 years. Commemorating this is a wonderful opportunity for others to get out for a great evening and support the museum."

In addition to Alliance Bank, sponsors include The Palladium-Times, Oswego Printing, Port of Oswego Authority, Fulton Savings Bank and Pathfinder Bank. Gala tickets are on sale now for $100 and include the evening's highlight, a re-creation of the eight-course, first-class meal served on Titanic by the American Foundry's well-known chef, Emil Nymander. Throughout the evening, guests will listen to the enchanting music of harpist Marcella Slatter and the seven-piece Do Good Swing Band while SUNY Oswego students and community performers working under Director Jonel Langenfeld Rial, professor of theater at SUNY Oswego, immerse them in the history of the period.

Other activities include a silent auction featuring an assortment of beautiful prizes and a commemoration ceremony presented by George DeMass, chaplain of the Titanic Historical Society.

"A Titanic Affair" is part of the marine museum's year-long recognition of this historic disaster. A 3-class series of ballroom dance lessons with Steve and Tanna Olin will begin Thursday, March 29 for a small fee. The expanded exhibit, "Titanic: Commemorating the 100th Anniversary," will open in July and a screening of the 1958 movie "A Night to Remember" is scheduled for the fall.
