The Fulton Art Association awarded two deserving Fulton seniors for their achievements in art and photography at their graduation ceremony on Saturday, June 23.
Art teachers Sara Koblentz and Meredith Williams together with Technology/Photography teacher Starr Matteson, all of G. Ray Bodley High School, selected the recipients of the two $100 scholarships.
Maggie Ryan received the art award for 2011-2012. "Maggie is motivated and hard-working inside and out of the academic realm. She has maintained a full-time job that occupies her outside of school and maintains a high level of devotion to her studies. She has taken all of the art courses that GRB High School has to offer and was successful in all areas. She skillfully mastered the mediums of ceramics, painting, drawing, and mixed media as she was required, yet also brought a personal touch that made her work unique." stated her two teachers.
She is the daughter of Patrick and Tracey Ryan of Fulton, who are excited and supportive of their daughter's talents and have sought out opportunities to build her passion of art and all mediums which motivated her future ambitions. Maggie will be attending SUNY Oswego for computer graphics.
Vanessa Fuller received the photography award for 2011-2012. "Over the past two years, I have had the opportunity to work with Vanessa and see her passion for photography first hand. Vanessa has excelled in both photography and media productions courses. She has a natural aptitude for capturing the essence of nature and black and white photographs. I look forward to seeing her skill and aptitude for photography grow throughout her college experience. Her determination for the perfect photograph will guide her toward success as she works her way through the photography program at OCC." stated Starr Matteson.
Vanessa, the daughter of Brenda Fuller of Fulton, has been accepted into the photography program at Onondaga Community College in the fall. After graduating OCC, Vanessa plans on attending Cazenovia College to continue her studies in photography. Her long-term goal is to own her own photography studio.
