County Legislature Announces New Public Health Director
NEW PUBLIC HEALTH DIRECTOR APPOINTED - Mr. Jiancheng Huang was appointed as the new public health director for the Oswego County Health Department at the July legislature meeting.
OSWEGO - The Oswego County Legislature appointed Jiancheng Huang as the new public health director for the Oswego County Health Department during its July meeting.
"I am impressed with the dedication of the staff at the county's health department," said Huang. "I am thrilled to have the opportunity of promoting good health in Oswego County."
Huang has several years of experience working as the director of the Maine Immunization Program for the Maine Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Prior to his term as director, Huang worked as an epidemiologist for the same organization. A Harvard graduate with a master's degree in public health, Huang is a published practitioner and his resume also includes experience in biomedical research, service on various workgroups and committees at national and regional levels, and membership with national professional affiliations.
"We conducted a comprehensive national search and received many responses from candidates from across the country with a wide range of professional experience," said Legislator John Proud, District 7, chairman of the Oswego County Legislature's Health and Human Services Committee. "After a thorough evaluation process, we are pleased to welcome Mr. Huang to Oswego County."
The selection committee was appointed by Oswego County Legislature Chairman Fred Beardsley. In addition to the chairman, the committee included Oswego County Administrator Philip Church; members of the Oswego County Health and Human Services Committee, Chairman John Proud and Legislator Amy Tresidder; members of the Finance and Personnel Committee, Chairman Arthur Ospelt and Vice Chairman Daniel Chalifoux; and the Oswego County Director of Personnel Carol Alnutt.
The position of public health director became available with the retirement of Dr. Dennis Norfleet in June. Inga Back served as acting director to continue the department's daily operations throughout the selection process.
