Oswego County Residents Save More than $4 Million Using Discount Prescription Cards

Oswego County residents have saved more than $4 million in prescription drug costs by using the Pro-Act prescription discount card, Legislator John Proud, chairman of the Legislature's Health and Human Services Committee, said today. Since the program's inception in 2008, county residents have filled more than 140,000 prescriptions, with an average price savings of $28.54 each.

"The ProAct Prescription Discount Card Program has been available to Oswego County residents for just over four years," said Legislator Proud, District 7, Mexico. "The discount card was introduced to ensure that local residents with little or no prescription coverage can obtain their medications at an affordable price."

At the start of the program, discount cards were mailed directly to every household. Cards are also available at local pharmacies and at county agencies such as the Department of Social Services, Health Department, and Office for the Aging. People may also print out their own discount card by visiting www.NYRxDiscountCard.com

The Oswego County discount card program covers every medication, including some pet medications. Cards are accepted at most pharmacies within Oswego County and at more than 60,000 pharmacies nationwide. The discount card program is saving residents an average of 10 to 20 percent on brand name medications and 20 to 70 percent on generic medications.
