Social Services Agency Sponsors Orientation Meeting for Future Foster and Adoptive Parents
MEXICO - The Oswego County Department of Social Services will sponsor an informational meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the Department's Spring Street office, Mexico, for persons who are interested in becoming foster or adoptive parents.
Oswego County also needs Hispanic foster parents. El Condado de Oswego necesita padres de crianza hispanos! Spanish-speaking persons are encouraged to attend.
The Department of Social Services is looking for people who would like to become foster families, particularly for children ages 8 and over who may have special needs for supervision. All children available for adoption through Social Services have been in foster care for a period of time. The children are typically age 10 and older and have special needs.
Attendance at the Sept. 11 informational meeting is required in order to enroll in the 10-week preparation program. Single and two-parent families may apply to foster or adopt. Both parents in a two-parent household must attend the training. The 10-week pre-certification training program for people who wish to become adoptive or foster parents will be held every Wednesday from Sept. 12 through Nov. 14, from 6 to 9 p.m.
