Oswego County Offers Training for Local Planning and Zoning Officials
OSWEGO - The County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning will sponsor three seminars for local planning and zoning officials Tuesday, Sept. 11, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Oswego High School Auditorium, 2 Buccaneer Blvd.
The seminars will cover a variety of topics to help local officials who serve the public as code enforcement officers, members of municipal planning and zoning boards, and elected officials. The following courses will be offered:
- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 101, 5:30 - 6 p.m.: An overview and clarification of the responsibilities and regulatory program of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Topics will include wetland delineations, permitting process, soil surveys, USGS maps, National Wetland Inventory maps, and other on-line resources.
- Comprehensive Planning, 6 to 7:30 p.m.: Discussion of practical and legal benefits of adopting a comprehensive plan and how to involve the public, strategies for compiling essential data, plan contents, and steps leading to adoption of a comprehensive plan. Code enforcement officers may receive 1 hour of in-service credit for the class.
- Revising Zoning, 7:45 to 9:15 p.m.: Discussion covers when it is appropriate to update a municipality's zoning regulations, importance of the comprehensive plan, and procedures for amending zoning laws and ordinances. Code enforcement officers may receive 1 hour of in-service credit for the class.
