Antique Engines and Tractors Will Run Again at 'Crank It Up' Show Sept. 15 - 16

Lone Cow Poke Chuck Corey will set up his Circle C Cowboy Ranch chuck wagon at the "Crank It Up" Antique Tractor and Engine Show Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 15 and 16, at the Oswego County Fairgrounds in Sandy Creek.

SANDY CREEK - The Oswego County Fairgrounds in Sandy Creek will bustle with old engines, tractors, vendors and music at the Crank It Up! Antique Tractor and Engine Show Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 15 and 16, at the Sandy Creek Fairgrounds. Admission is by donation. Parking is free.

Founded seven years ago by Doreen Macklen, her husband Dale and son Jim, all of Boylston, the show has grown into a "heritage show and tell" of vintage farm machinery, crafts, music, and traditional agricultural activities from the rural North Country.

Visitors will see old tractors puff away and watch fly wheels turn old engines to pump water, run antique farm equipment, and pull sleds with weighted loads.

"This year's show promises to be another great family-friendly event," said Doreen Macklen. "The kids can run a hand-operated corn sheller, and then watch the corn being ground up into flour. There are samples of corn bread for them to try from home ground corn flour. There will be tractor skills with the slow race, blind fold race, barrel roll, backing up a tractor and wagon, and backing up a tractor to try to crack an egg shell but not break the membrane."

The 10th Mountain Division Band "Avalanche" from Fort Drum will perform from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Lone Cow Poke Doug Corey of the Circle C Ranch in Phoenix, NY will return with his authentic Circle C Cowboy Camp, a unique living history display. Corey, who calls himself a "cowboyologist," is a member of the Western Chuck Wagon Association and his camp is registered as completely authentic.

Wood crafters Dan Romagnol and Peter Fedrigon will make and model wooden cowboy hats and demonstrate their wooden bowls, ornaments and other items made on a wood lathe. Two Chicks Farm Alpacas of Rodman, NY return this year with alpacas and items from their store.

"New this year are the band from Fort Drum and the Hawks Air Show," said Macklen. "The Hawks offer a program for youth teaching radio-controlled flight. They demonstrate and encourage youth participation. They are associated with Oswego Valley Modelaires Radio Controlled Flying Club of Fulton."

Several community organizations will be on hand distributing information. Kids ages five to 15 can compete in a "pedal pull" using a pedal tractor with a transfer sled to see who can pull the heaviest load.

Other events include a one-acre corn maze, bean bag toss, sack races, and a square dance by the Misfits. A variety of refreshments will be available. For more information, visit www.crankitup-antiquetractorshow.com.
