County Legislature Chairman Announces 2013 Standing Committee Assignments

OSWEGO COUNTY - Oswego County Legislature Chairman Fred C. Beardsley, District 9, Central Square, recently announced a re-organization of the Legislature's standing committees, along with the 2013 legislative appointments to the committees. There are seven committees that oversee various departments within Oswego County government and make budgetary and policy recommendations to the full Legislature.

The standing committees for 2013 are:

  • Government, Courts and Consumer Affairs: Chairman Terry Wilbur, District 21, Hannibal; Vice Chairman John J. Martino, District 6, Hastings; Shane Broadwell, District 17, Oswego; David M. Holst, District 4, Amboy; Jacob A. Mulcahey, District 15, Oswego; James M. Oldenburg, District 14, Scriba; and Milferd Potter, District 2, Orwell. The committee oversees the Board of Elections, Clerk of the Legislature, County Attorney's Office, County Clerk's Office, the County Legislature, Legislature Chairman's Office, Real Property Tax Service and the Weights and Measures Office. It meets at 10 a.m. on Mondays two weeks before the full Legislature meeting.

  • Economic Development and Planning: Chairwoman Louella LeClair, District 25, Fulton; Vice Chairman Shane Broadwell, District 17, Oswego; Daniel LeClair, District 8, Palermo; Morris Sorbello, District 23, Granby; Amy M. Tresidder, District 16, Oswego; Terry Wilbur, District 21, Hannibal; and Shawn Doyle, District 3, Pulaski. This committee oversees the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning along with several authorized agencies. The group meets at 2 p.m. on Mondays two weeks before the full Legislature meeting.

  • Public Safety: Chairwoman Linda Lockwood, District 11, Volney; Vice Chairman James Karasek, District 22, Fulton; Shane Broadwell, District 17, Oswego; Margaret Kastler, District 1, Sandy Creek; Daniel LeClair, District 8, Palermo; Jacob A. Mulcahey, District 15, Oswego. The committee oversees the District Attorney's Office, E-911, Emergency Management, the Fire Coordinator's Office, the Probation Department and the Sheriff's Office. It meets at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays, two weeks before the full Legislature meeting.

  • Infrastructure, Facilities and Technology: Chairman Robert Hayes, Sr., District 10, Phoenix; Vice Chairman Kevin Gardner, District 13, New Haven; Daniel Chalifoux, District 19, Minetto; David M. Holst, District 4, Amboy; Amy M. Tresidder, District 16, Oswego; Linda Lockwood, District 11, Volney; and John J. Martino, District 6, Hastings. This committee oversees the County Airport, Buildings and Grounds Department, Central Services, the Energy Recovery Facility, Highway Department, and Solid Waste Department. The group meets at 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, two weeks before the County Legislature meeting.

  • Health: Chairman John Proud, District 7, Mexico; Vice Chairman Morris Sorbello, District 23, Granby; Daniel T. Farfaglia, District 24, Fulton; Margaret Kastler, District 1, Sandy Creek; Michael K. Kunzwiler, District 18, Oswego; and Ronald E. Sakonyi, District 5, Constantia. The committee oversees the Oswego County Health Department and meets at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays, two weeks before the full Legislature.

  • Human Services: Chairman Kevin Gardner, District 13, New Haven; Vice Chairman Ronald E. Sakonyi, District 5, Constantia; Shawn Doyle, District 3, Pulaski; James Karasek, District 22, Fulton; Douglas E. Malone, District 20, Oswego Town; John Proud, District 7, Mexico; and Daniel T. Farfaglia, District 24, Fulton. This committee oversees the Office for the Aging, Department of Social Services, Veterans' Services, and the Youth Bureau. The group meets at 2 p.m. on Wednesdays, two weeks before the Legislature meeting.

  • Finance and Personnel: Chairman James M. Oldenburg, District 14, Scriba; Vice Chairman Daniel Chalifoux, District 19, Minetto; Robert Hayes, Sr., District 10, Phoenix; Michael K. Kunzwiler, District 18, Oswego; Louella LeClair, District 25, Fulton; Douglas E. Malone, District 20, Oswego Town; and Milferd Potter, District 2, Orwell. The committee oversees the offices of Audit, County Administrator, County Treasurer, Personnel Department, and Purchasing Department. It meets at 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, one week before the full Legislature meeting.
