OSWEGO - Oswego County AmeriCorps is currently accepting applications for summer positions. AmeriCorps is a national service program whose members learn valuable skills while receiving a living allowance and earning an education award for tuition or student loans. In the past, many college students have found the summer AmeriCorps program provides them an experience related to their college studies, while helping to pay for their education.
"Across our country, AmeriCorps members assist their local communities with education, environment, public safety and other human needs," said Kathy Andolina, Oswego County AmeriCorps Program Coordinator. "Locally, our Oswego County AmeriCorps Program provides fitness and nutrition activities for youth at a variety of locations around the county."
Oswego County AmeriCorps is currently accepting applications for 300-hour summer positions. Applicants must be at least 17 years of age. There is no upper age limit. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, or be in the process of receiving one, and should have some experience working with youth.
For a 300-hour summer AmeriCorps position, members receive a living allowance of $2,072, and an education award of $1,175 at the end of their term of service.
Applications should be submitted as soon as possible. Interviews will be scheduled until all positions are filled. It is anticipated that all positions will be filled by June 1.
For applications and additional information call Andolina at the Oswego City/County Youth Bureau, weekdays at 315-349-3451 or 1-800-596-3200, extension 3451. The member application can be downloaded at oswegocounty.com/forms/youth/application.pdf
