Oswego County Appoints Daniel Stevens New Purchasing Director

OSWEGO -The Oswego County Legislature appointed Daniel H. Stevens as purchasing director for Oswego County at its Oct. 10 meeting.

Accredited by the National Association of Purchasing Managers as a Certified Purchasing Manager, Stevens brings more than 20 years of experience to the positionwith expertise in the formal bidding process and municipallaw. He previously worked as School Purchasing Officer for the Syracuse City School District, Central Distribution Manager for Upstate University Hospital, and as Business Manager at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter's Church in Syracuse.

"I have broad experience in the public and private sector, and have tried to learn from all past positions to carry my experience forward," he said. "I am looking forward to serving the residents of Oswego County."

Stevens holds a Master's of Business Administration degree from Syracuse University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics from SUNY Plattsburgh. He is a long-time member of the board of directors of the Syracuse Shakespeare Festival, and has worked with the group in many capacities including director, actor, stage crew, and producer. He will direct the theater company's production of "King Lear" in February at the NYS Fairgrounds.

He and his wife, Nora, have four adult sons.

"The purchasing department ensures that the county's procurement and sale of materials and services is conducted in a manner that provides the best price and value for the taxpayers of Oswego County," said County Legislator James Oldenburg, District 14, Oswego, chairman of the Legislature's Finance and Personnel Committee. "We conducted a comprehensive search for the purchasing director position and received many responses from candidates across the region. After a thorough evaluation, we are pleased to welcome Mr. Stevens to Oswego County."

Stevens succeeds former purchasing director Fred M. Maxon who retired earlier this year. The selection committee was appointed by Legislature Chairman Kevin Gardner and included Legislature Chairman Gardner, Legislators Jay Martino, District 6, Hastings; Jacob Mulcahey, District 15, Oswego; Terry Wilbur, District 21, Hannibal, and County Administrator Philip Church.
