11-Week Training Classes for Future Foster and Adoptive Parents Begins Sept. 11

MEXICO - The Oswego County Department of Social Services hosts a training class for prospective foster and adoptive parents Thursday evenings, Sept. 11 through Nov. 20, from 6 to 9 p.m. Classes will be held at the Department of Social Services, 100 Spring St., Mexico, for English- and Spanish-speaking persons who are interested in becoming foster or adoptive parents. The training is designed to help people decide if they are ready to become foster or adoptive parents. Oswego County also needs Hispanic foster parents. Families are especially needed for sibling groups and teenagers who have specific supervision needs, in addition to other children that may need fostering. All children available for adoption through the Department of Social Services have been in foster care for a period of time. The children are typically age 8 and older and have special needs.

To enroll in this session of "Model Approach to Partnerships in Parenting - Group Preparation Selection," single- and two-parent families must call prior to attending the meetings and take part in an informational meeting which is scheduled monthly. Both parents in a two-parent household must attend the training. This 11-week pre-certification training program for people who wish to become adoptive or foster parents begins onSept. 11.
