SENATOR GILLIBRAND VISITS OSWEGO

SENATOR GILLIBRAND VISITS OSWEGO - U.S. Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrandvisited the Port of Oswego Oct. 27 to discuss her concerns about the spread of plastic microbeads in the Great Lakes. Plastic microbeads are found in personal care products like facial scrubs, body wash, and hand cleansers. When washed down the drain, the particles are too small to be captured by wastewater treatment plants and are released into bodies of water such as Lake Ontario. The microbeads concentrate toxins and can be ingested by birds and fish, posing serious environmental and health risks. Sen. Gillibrand is urging Congress and the Environmental Protection Agency to ban microplastics from consumer products.
