Youth Court Training Begins July 27 in Oswego

OSWEGO - The July 17 application deadline for Oswego Youth Court is fast-approaching. Training will be held July 27 to 31 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Oswego City Hall. The program is open to all Oswego County students who are in grades 7 through 12.

"Youth Court is a fantastic way to build your resume, learn about the justice system and truly make a difference in your community," said Youth Court member and 2015 Paul Santore Award winner Ryan Smith.

Applications are available at any Oswego County school guidance office, at the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau, 70 Bunner St., Oswego, and by going online to www.oswegocounty.com/youth.

"Youth Court is an excellent program designed to give youthful offenders a second chance while members get experience in the justice system and also gain community service hours," said Sam Crisafulli, youth services coordinator with the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau. "Members hear cases that have been referred by local law enforcement, schools or the Department of Social Services, and hand down actual sentences."

For more information about the Oswego Youth Court program contact Dawn Metott or Sam Crisafulli at the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau, phone (315) 349-3451 or email: youthcourt@oswegocounty.com.

Oswego Youth Courts are sponsored by the City of Oswego, the County of Oswego, the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau and the Office of Children and Family Services.
