FULTON - Oswego County Workforce New York (OCWNY) and the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation (CiTi), in cooperation with several area healthcare providers, including Oswego Health, The Manor at Seneca Hill, Morningstar Residential Care Center and several home health care agencies have joined together to offer an opportunity for the general public to learn more about careers in healthcare and possibly land a job.
The "Exploring Careers in Healthcare" event will take place at the Oswego County Workforce New York office at 200 N. Second St. in Fulton on Thursday, Aug. 27 from 11 am to 4 pm.
Representatives from local healthcare providers will be on site to interview for open positions ranging from home health aides to registered nurses. Participants will have the ability to talk with professionals in the industry as well as hiring personnel. Those interested should come prepared for an interview with proper dress and copies of their resumes.
"With the baby-boomers in the county aging, there are amazing opportunities for anyone with compassion and a desire to help to find rewarding work in the healthcare field" said Chad Whelsky, Employment Specialist at the Workforce office. "In addition, healthcare remains one of the few industries that forecasts job growth into the future. Someone starting as a certified nursing aide today could be a well-paid therapist or nurse within a few years. Whether a person decides that a nursing aide position is the right choice or decides to continue with their education for other positions, the job market is very strong."
OCWNY has an active role in coordinating this venture.
"Facilitating partnerships fulfills one of our primary objectives," said Whelsky. "We work with companies, organizations, and job seekers alike to create opportunities for people to acquire or improve their skills set and make them 'job-ready,' which provides a quality pool of skilled candidates for area employers." The role of OCWNY goes beyond making introductions. They also work with candidates to find scholarships to help cover costs.
