Show Us CNY15 Exhibition will be displayed in Oswego Nov. 20 - Jan. 5

OSWEGO -The Show Us CNY15 Exhibition, featuring 40 winning photographs from across the Central New York region,will be displayed in the corridors of Canal Commons, 191 to 203 W. First St., Oswego, Friday, Nov. 20, through Tuesday, Jan. 5.

Show Us CNY is an annual community project organized by Social Media Breakfast (SMB) Syracusewith support from nearly two dozen regional organizations. The exhibition features 40 photographs across seven categories, selected in a juried competition from 1,100 images submitted by Central New York community members. Among the winning photographs are images of the Minetto bridge and the railroad bridge arches inPulaski by Laurel Haller; the Oswego breakwall and lighthouse by Joe Falcetti; a re-enactment at Fort Ontario by Michael Byrne; and Harborfest fireworks by Michele C. Wood. There will be a reception to honor the photographers from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20 at Canal Commons.

The Oswego County Tourism Office partnered with several regional organizations to promote the project and bring the exhibition to Oswego County.

"Congratulations to the winning photographers," said Janet Clerkin, Oswego County Tourism and Public Information Coordinator. "Their photographs showcase the special beauty of Oswego County andwonderful aspects of the quality of life that we enjoy in Central New York.I want to thank Kevin Morrow of Syracuse University who reached out to our office to become involved in the project, Michele Southgate of Lakeside Artisans for her help in locating a venue, and Anthony Pauldine of Canal Commons for providing the space to display the images. I encourage residents to stop by Canal Commons during the holiday shopping season and view the exhibition."

SMB Syracuse first created the Show Us CNY concept in 2013, encouraging individuals throughout Central New York to shootimages of where they wereand what they were doing during a weekend in June,and then post the imagery to Twitter, Instagram or Facebook.

"The initial response was terrific, with about 500 photos submitted," said Kevin Morrow, Executive Director, Public Affairs Strategic Communications at Syracuse University and co-founder of Social Media Breakfast Syracuse."And the project has grown tremendously, to more than 1,100 photographs submitted in this year's edition."

Included in the exhibition, as selected by the judges, are one overall "Best of Show" photograph and "Best of" selections in each category: Action, Animals, Artistic, B&W/Unicolor, People, Scenic/Nature and Structure. Haller's photograph of the Minetto bridge received "Best in Structure" category.

All images in the exhibition were printed in 11" x 14" format by Light Work and mounted by the Syracuse University Bookstore.
