Oswego Museum Is Part of Statewide Museum Discount Promotion
OSWEGO - The H. Lee White Maritime Museum in Oswego is one of 15 museums and attractions across New York State that are being promoted in the I Love NY Museum Discount this winter.
The promotion is sponsored by I Love NY and ends March 31. Visitors can download a coupon and receive 15 percent off admission to a selection of museums and cultural institutions across the state.
"We're honored that the maritime museum is featured in I Love NY's history promotion this winter," said Janet Clerkin, Oswego County Tourism and Public Information Coordinator. "The program gives people the opportunity to learn more about our area's rich and colorful heritage, and encourages people to visit museums and cultural attractions across the state this winter."
The H. Lee White Maritime Museum, located at 1 W. First St. Pier in Oswego's maritime district, recounts more than 400 years of regional maritime history through a variety of exhibits and artifacts. Open year-round, the museum is comprised of several key sites including the main building of exhibits, a fleet of historic vessels, and a boating education center. Vessels include the National Register of Historic Places 1927 NYS Derrick Boat, the National Historic Landmark WWII Tugboat LT-5, the last American commercial fishing vessel on Lake Ontario the Eleanor D, and the replica 19th century schooner Ontario.
"The Maritime Museum's main building is open all year to visitors telling Oswego's story as the oldest US freshwater port in the country. Even in the winter, the views from our building looking out onto the harbor, Lake Ontario, Oswego River and the Oswego Lighthouse are spectacular. Several of our vessels can be viewed from the pier as well. It's a great way to get out and experience maritime life first hand," noted Mercedes Niess, Executive Director of the H. Lee White Maritime Museum.
