Fort Ontario State Historic Site Hosts I Love My Park Day
OSWEGO - Fort Ontario will celebrate the fifth annual I Love My Park Day on Saturday, May 7. Volunteers will converge on the historic fort to clean, paint, rake, garden and more. Last year more than 100 volunteers turned out for the event.
“We anticipate more volunteers this year,” said Paul Lear, superintendent of Fort Ontario State Historic Site. “The tasks completed by our volunteers free our regular staff to do other projects. With your support, this could be the biggest turn out for any New York State facility.”
Volunteers should pre-register at www.ptny.org as it is much easier and faster than registering in person May 7, especially for families.
Any area businesses who would like to donate tools, supplies or something for a door prize should contact Park Manager Ron Healt at 607-267-9968 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Pre-event breakfast foods and coffee will be available. Pizza will be served at approximately 12 noon.
“Bring a rake, shovel or trowel if gardening is your choice, or broom and dustpan if you would like to help clean the ghostly underground chambers,” said Caroline Lamie, office manager.
For more information, please call the fort at 343-4711.
Help clean up the flotsam and jetsam of winter at Fort Ontario on Saturday, May 7 beginning at 8:30 a.m. Volunteers are advised to pre-register at www.ptny.org/ilovemyparkday to streamline on-site registration.
