Oswego County Manufacturing Employers need Qualified Workers
FULTON - In response to the needs of Oswego County manufacturers, Cayuga Community College (CCC) has begun recruiting for its next Advanced Manufacturing Pre-Employment program on the Fulton campus at 11 River Glen Drive.
The initial offering has proven very successful and students in the current class are being actively recruited by local companies like Huhtamaki, Novelis and other local manufacturers, according to Chad Whelsky, Program Coordinator with Oswego County Workforce NY.
The 10-week certificate program was designed in response to local manufacturing employer needs and provides training that allows candidates to improve the skills they need to begin a career as a machine operator, electrical or industrial maintenance technician, or other skilled positions available with area companies.
Classes are taught by experts who currently work in the industry. The program also includes plant tours and meetings with company leaders to learn the types of skills that applicants need in order to be hired.
"There are many good paying manufacturing opportunities available locally for people who are willing to put in the effort and take advantage of opportunities so they can land that career-making job," Whelsky added.
To assist those who lack the money to pay for tuition, the Oswego County Workforce NY program (OCWNY) can provide scholarships as part of the many services provided at the career center, located 200 N. Second St., Fulton.
Anyone interested in the Advanced Manufacturing Pre-Employment Certificate Program, or any other form of career training, is urged to contact Michelle Smith at the Oswego County Workforce NY office at 315-591-9055.
