Network of Tourism Professionals Present 3rd Annual Tourism Ambassador Program in Brewerton
Brewerton - Businesses, attractions and citizens across Oswego County are encouraged to join a network of tourism professionals at a Tourism Ambassador Program from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, May 23 in Brewerton. Hosted by 916 Riverside (formerly Castaway's) in Brewerton, the program is designed to increase the tourism and hospitality knowledge of business owners, front-line staff, volunteers, and community leaders in Oswego County.
The training session is sponsored by 916 Riverside, Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning, Cre8 Studios, H. Lee White Maritime Museum, Oswego Expeditions, and the Herzig Group. Lunch will be provided at a nominal fee which includes the registration cost. Space is limited and reservations are required.
"This program is designed to give an overview of some of the key tourism resources in our county, and direct people to sources of information to assist visitors," said Dave Turner, director of the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning. "We incorporated feedback from previous workshops and we're looking forward to sharing information and learning about the north shore area. After lunch, marketing experts will present a workshop on social media, and Spike Herzig will give us tips on making our visitors feel welcome."
The program includes a short series of regional presentations focusing on natural, cultural and heritage resources, followed by lunch and networking opportunities.
Presenters include Glenn Donnelly on the CNY Raceway Park, George DeRousie, president of the Fort Brewerton-Oneida Lake Chamber of Commerce on local attractions, and Dave Turner on regional fishing. After lunch and tours, keynote speaker Lynn "Spike" Herzig of Geneva will give a presentation on hospitality training and the visitor experience, followed by a social media marketing presentation by Oswego County Tourism and Cre8 Studios.
Businesses and attractions are encouraged to bring brochures to share their information at a brochure exchange station at the conference center. "Participants don't need to be employed in the hospitality industry in order to benefit from this program," said Turner. "We encourage community leaders, business owners and managers, as well as people who are thinking about getting jobs in Oswego County's hospitality industry, to sign up. Our goal is to develop a first-class welcoming environment in the county -- one that makes our visitors want to tell other people about what a great experience they had here in Oswego County."
