Festival of Arts Celebrates Arts, Music and Beauty Aug. 12 - 14
FULTON - The CNY Arts Center will celebrate Oswego County's bicentennial through the artist's eyes with a Plein Air Paint Out Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 12 through 14. Artists are invited to paint local attractions such as historic buildings, scenic landscapes, and local businesses.
The event is part of the Festival of the Arts taking place across Fulton that weekend. Arts Fest will feature artists and artisan vendors, food, friends, and live entertainment Saturday in the War Memorial.
Registered painters will donate a painting to the CNY Arts Center for an auction Sunday, Aug. 14, to raise money for arts programming throughout the year.
"There are many opportunities for people in the community to get involved in the Arts and Crafts Fest this year," said Nancy Fox, director of the CNY Arts Center. "People will be able to watch artists painting at various locations, purchase original paintings of some of our county's beautiful sites, walk the bridges, and listen to great music at the Jazz Festival at Lake Neatahwanta Friday and Saturday evenings."
The "Tale of Two Bridges Fun Walk for the Arts" begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Fulton War Memorial. Walkers can take a fun and relaxing stroll across the bridges of Fulton to celebrate Oswego County's 200th anniversary and Fulton's unique place within the county.
Walkers will compete in several fun activities. Rewards will be given for the largest community group; most funds raised (individual and group); best team spirit; and most artistic/ creative (individual and group). Prizes will be awarded at 1 p.m. inside the ice rink at the Fulton War Memorial on State Route 3.
The Fulton Jazz Fest will kick off at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12 with the Salt City Jazz Collective performing on the Fulton Savings Bank Stage on the shore of Lake Neatahwanta, behind the War Memorial. Admission is free.
Performing at 6:30 Friday are the Longwood Jazz Project, followed by the party band Atlas.Starting at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, listen to FreeFall Jazz Orchestra, followed by the headliner Jumaane Smith featuring Carmen Intorre on drums at 6 p.m., and Classified at 8 p.m. Smith is a trumpeter and singer who studied at Julliard and privately with Wynton Marsalis. He toured and recorded with Michael Buble for several years and worked with Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock and others.
