Oswego County Bicentennial Committee Sponsors Photo Contest

OSWEGO COUNTY - The Oswego County Bicentennial Committee is sponsoring a photo contest this summer to celebrate the county's 200th anniversary. The finalists in several categories will be displayed in the Heritage Building at the Oswego County Fair in August. Winners will be honored at a reception at the Tailwater Lodge in Altmar later this summer.

Entries must be submitted to the County Tourism Office by Friday, Aug. 5. The organizing committee will select up to 10 finalists in each category, and the final photos will be displayed in the Heritage Building at the Oswego County Fair in Sandy Creek between Aug. 10 and Aug. 14, where fairgoers may vote for their favorite in each category.

Horizontal and vertical photos will be judged in the following categories: agriculture; architecture; wildlife; scenic (landscapes, sunsets. seasons); recreation; the arts (music, drama, murals, etc.); monuments (cemeteries and public monuments); patriotic (veterans, flags, Americana); and historic ruins or relics (including old farm equipment and old vehicles).

Debbie Allen, New Haven Town Clerk and a member of the County Bicentennial Committee, is chairing the photo contest.

"Our local historians have selected categories that reflect important aspects of Oswego County's history," said Allen. "The photos will be available to the historians and the county tourism office for their use in displays and publications. Winners will be recognized at a reception at the Tailwater Lodge, and receive the Oswego County bicentennial history book or a gift pack of Oswego County items."

Individuals may submit up to five photos each. Each photo must be accompanied by a completed entry form. Images should be a minimum of 300 dpi in jpg or png format, with a minimum size of 5 by 7 inches and a maximum size of 8 by 10 inches. Images will not be returned.

Submissions will also be featured on the Oswego County Facebook page at www.facebook.com/visitoswegocounty.
