December 18, 20172018 Budget Keeps Property Tax Rate Stable -
OSWEGO - For the third consecutive year, Oswego County legislators kept the tax rate steady at $7.70 per $1,000 assessed property value with the adoption of the 2018 county budget Thursday night, Dec. 14.
The 2018 budget contains $203,004,863 in appropriations, with $43.8 million raised through the property tax levy. The generic county tax rate is unchanged from 2016 and 2017.
Outgoing County Legislature Chairman Kevin Gardner, District 13, New Haven, said the county is in a good financial position and praised the legislature and department heads for their work to keep taxes stable. Gardner was elected County Treasurer in November and will assume the new position in January.
The actual tax rate paid by property owners will vary depending on their municipality's total assessed property value, equalization rates, and local costs of state-mandated workers' compensation and community college chargeback rates.
