Intake is a 3-5 month program designed to keep juveniles out of the family court system. It is voluntary, in that the juvenile has to agree to participate. If they refuse, their paperwork must be forwarded to family court. If the victim or parents/guardian demand access to court the matter is referred to court.

In order to participate, the juvenile must be willing to take responsibility for the offense. The youth is given a set of conditions to follow and must report to probation on a regular basis. Probation works to ensure that the youth maintains enrollment in a school program and that they are connected to and following through with any services deemed appropriate.

If the youth is compliant, they are considered successfully adjusted and their file is sealed. If they are non-compliant the case is closed and referred to family court.
