Inspector Information

ELIGIBILITY
To be certified as an Election Inspector, you must be:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • registered to vote in Oswego County
  • enrolled in one of the two largest parties (Democrat or Republican)
  • trained and certified by the Board of Elections (though untrained inspectors are hired as needed)
Physical disability does not automatically disqualify voters from becoming an Election Inspector.


DUTIES

Election inspectors are assigned to one poll site for the entire day.  The Oswego County Board of Elections does not schedule inspectors for partial day work or 'split-shifts'. 
Inspectors responsibilities include, but are not limited, to:

  • issuing ballots to voters
  • collecting signatures of voters in the poll book
  • monitoring the voting machines to make sure they are working properly
  • answering questions and providing assistance to voters when requested
  • making sure the poll site is run efficiently and in accordance with state and federal law

 
PAYMENT
Election inspectors are compensated for both work and training:

Election inspector (trained)     $200.00
(untrained) $125.00

 

Election inspector training     $30.00
