Oswego County Health Department Announces April Workshops

March 30, 2023

The Oswego County Health Department hosts workshops and classes in April that are focused on fall prevention for seniors and suicide prevention. Free and open to the public, each event provides a safe and welcoming environment for residents to have discussions with trained professionals regarding physical and mental health.

“Stepping On” is a seven-week workshop offering seniors the opportunity to learn fall prevention exercises and strategies. Join the health department and the Oswego County Office for the Aging (OFA) for an introductory session to learn more about the program. It runs from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday, April 24 at the Nick Stereo Public Health Clinic, 70 Bunner St., Oswego.

Designed to prevent falls before they happen, the workshop has been proven to reduce falls by 31%. For more information about the “Stepping On” workshop or to register for the April session, contact OFA at 315-349-8697.

A “Talk Saves Lives: Suicide Prevention” class runs from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 14 at the Nick Stereo Public Health Clinic, 70 Bunner St., Oswego.

This program uses statistics and evidence-based information to teach communication techniques, identify those at risk of suicide and learn how to find help and resources.
