Calling All Oswego County Artists!

May 17, 2024

The Mary Walker Mural Committee announces a call for artists to submit letters of interest to produce a 4’ x 10’ wooden mural of Dr. Mary Walker, Town of Oswego hero, Civil War surgeon and, to date, the only woman to receive the U.S. Congressional Medal of Honor.

Submissions should include a letter of interest, resume and digital work sample. Applications will be accepted through May 22 with a project deadline of August.

The committee will supply all materials needed to complete the new mural. It will replace the existing one – now 20 years old and greatly deteriorated – at the river’s end bookstore facing West Bridge Street.

The project coincides with this year’s release of the Dr. Mary Walker quarter as part of the U.S. Mint’s 2024 American Women Quarters Program.

It has been made possible through the CNY Arts Grants for Regional Arts and Cultural Engagement regrant program thanks to a New York State Senate Initiative supported by the NYS Legislature, the Office of the Governor and administered by the New York State Council on the Arts.
