Oswego County Emergency Teams Respond to Calls of Gas Odors

July 8, 2024

The Oswego County E-911 Communications Center has received multiple calls regarding gas odors in the city of Fulton and surrounding areas since mid-afternoon today, July 8.

The Fulton Fire Department, Volney Fire Department, Granby Center Fire Department, Cody Fire Department and Oswego City Fire Department responded to all calls received.

County emergency officials have been in contact with National Grid representatives.

Residents who detect strong gas odors should get out of the building and call 9-1-1 or National Grid's emergency number at 1-800-867-5222.

Oswego County emergency responders are closely monitoring the situation and will update the public if information becomes available.

Natural gas emergency guidelines advise residents to call 9-1-1 immediately if they:

  • smell gas and suspect a natural gas leak (such as a strong odor, hissing sound, or seeing dead vegetation around gas lines).
  • feel symptoms of natural gas exposure, such as dizziness, headache, or nausea.
  • see any visible damage to gas lines or infrastructure.
