The Office for the Aging directly provides, or contracts to provide, a number of services to enable older residents of Oswego County to remain within their home safely and with dignity.
Caregiver services: Provides care givers with much needed support. Care giver services are vital to keeping older people in their homes.
Legal Services: Residents 60+ years old can be referred to a local attorney through our legal referral program. Seniors can obtain information, guidance and legal representation, dependent on whether or not a legal problem exists.
Nutrition Services: Eligible participants are provided meals for the more rural, isolated elderly in the county through the Home Delivered Meals Program or may attend a congregate meal site (Senior Dining and Activity Center) located at six sites throughout the county.
Senior Home Care and Assistance: Provides (under subcontract) in-home care (personal care and/or housekeeper chores) services for those 60+ years old who require assistance to remain in their own homes. Participants the in program may be required to pay a percentage of the cost of service, or make contributions. With an expansion of services, OFA also provides Consumer Direct In Home Services and Social Adult Day program services.
Health Promotion: Health promotion and disease prevention programs focus on keeping people healthy. Health promotion programs aim to engage and empower individuals and communities to choose healthy behaviors, and make changes that reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases and other morbidities.
NY Connects of Oswego County: NY Connects is a way to receive information and assistance on long term services and supports available in New York. This service is available for people of all ages and incomes.
Transportation: Transportation provided to and from the Senior Dining and Activity Centers (DAC) as well as a shopping visit. OFA also provides Curb to Curb Transportation for Seniors for shopping and doctor appointments within Oswego County.
Friendly Call Program: Provides telephone reassurance to seniors who live alone or who may feel isolated and/or vulnerable.
