New and Incumbent Oswego County Legislators Take Oath in January Meeting

OSWEGO COUNTY
– Four new members of the Oswego County Legislature were sworn in during the body’s organizational meeting Jan. 4. James Scanlon, District 16, represents portions of the city of Oswego; Noelle Beckwith Salmonsen, District 21, represents parts of Oswego Town and the town of Hannibal; Michael Solowy, District 23, represents parts of the towns of Granby and Hannibal; and Frank Castiglia, District 25, represents portions of the city of Fulton.

Incumbent legislators also took their oaths of office.

The Legislature then re-elected Legislator James Weatherup, District 9, as its chairman. Weatherup represents portions of the village of Central Square and the town of Hastings. Legislator Linda Lockwood, District 11, who represents portions of the town of Volney and the city of Fulton, was re-elected vice chairwoman. Oswego County Clerk of the Legislature Betsy Sherman-Saunders was re-elected to her second term.

Oswego County Court Judge Karen Brandt administered the oaths of office.

The Legislature's next regular meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, in the Legislative Chambers of the County Office Building at 46 E. Bridge St., Oswego.

James Scanlon District 16 (incoming) Jan22 (4b)

SCANLON TAKES SEAT ON OSWEGO COUNTY LEGISLATURE – New members of the Oswego County Legislature took office at the organizational meeting on January 6. Oswego County Court Justice Karen Brandt swears in James Scanlon as his wife Kathy holds the Bible. Legislator Scanlon represents District 16 which includes portions of the city of Oswego.

Noelle Beckwith Salmonsen District 21 (incoming) Jan22 (2b) 

BECKWITH LEGACY CONTINUES – Noelle Beckwith Salmonsen takes her oath for the 21st District of the Legislature. Her father Jack Beckwith, who served as legislator for the district from 2004 to 2009, holds the Bible as Hon. Karen Brandt, County Court Justice, swore in new legislator. Other family members present include (from left) Salmonsen’s son Seth, her boyfriend Christopher Soper, and her mother Faye. Legislator Salmonsen represents portions of Oswego Town and Hannibal.

Michael Solowy District 23 (incoming) Jan22 (4b)

NEW DISTRICT 23 LEGISLATOR TAKES OFFICE – Michael Solowy, the new legislator for District 23, takes his oath of office in front of Oswego County Court Justice Karen Brandt as his wife Donna holds the Bible. Legislator Solowy joined the Legislature at the group’s organizational meeting on January 6. He represents portions of Granby and Hannibal.

Frank Castiglia District 25 (incoming) Jan22 (3b) 

CASTIGLIA RETURNS TO OFFICE – Legislator Frank Castiglia, Jr., District 25, is sworn in by Oswego County Court Justice Karen Brandt as his wife Nila holds the Bible. Legislator Castiglia previously served on the Legislature for three terms, from 2014 to 2019. He represents portions of the city of Fulton.

OSWEGO COUNTY LEGISLATURE RENEWS OATH – Incumbent members of the Oswego County Legislature renewed their oaths of office during the group’s 2022 organizational meeting on Thursday, January 6. Oswego County Court Justice Karen Brandt presided over the oath.

James Weatherup District 9 (chairman) Jan22 (6b) 

LEGISLATURE CHAIRMAN RE-ELECTED – Legislator James Weatherup, District 9, was re-elected as chairman of the Oswego County Legislature at the 2022 organizational meeting. Oswego County Court Justice Karen Brandt administered the oath of office.

SHERMAN-SAUNDERS RE-ELECTED TO SECOND TERM – Betsy Sherman-Saunders begins her second term as clerk of the Oswego County Legislature in 2022. Oswego County Court Justice Karen Brandt officiated the oath as her daughter Jenna holds the Bible.
