Learn About a Career in Child Care From Local Agencies

Dec. 2, 2022

Oswego County Workforce New York (OCWNY) is partnering with Integrated Community Planning of Oswego County, Inc (ICP), to host a hiring event with multiple child care providers. The event will take place in-person from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at the OCWNY office at 200 N. Second St. in Fulton.

Brandy Koproski, executive director of ICP, explains that having “adequate child care is an essential component of a parent’s ability to work. With an already limited supply of child care providers, their staffing shortages further exacerbate the issue by lowering capacity in existing programs.”

OCWNY and ICP are hopeful that the hiring event will put a dent in the workforce shortage affecting child care providers and increase the availability of child care in Oswego County. If you are interested in a career in child care, there will be multiple providers on site with many different opportunities available to job seekers.

Robin Walker from Happy Hearts Childcare, Inc. states, “My facility has small class sizes which allows for more opportunities for teacher interaction and child participation. It’s a ‘home away from home’ atmosphere where children are learning, growing, and thriving.”

Christina Shaffer, owner and director of The GEM Childcare @ 13135, said, “We are seeking a lead teacher who has hands-on experience and a high school diploma. Our facility embraces a play-based approach to learning with educators that are experienced, qualified and dedicated to providing the highest quality care.”

Child care providers that will be present at the event include Oswego YMCA; Fulton YMCA; The GEM Childcare @ 13135; Happy Hearts Childcare, Inc.; Little Lukes Preschool and Childcare Center; Oswego County Opportunities, Inc.; and Before and After School Child Care on Location, Inc.

Applicants can call the OCWNY office at 315-591-9000 to schedule an interview appointment.
