‘SPLASH Into Reading’ with Youth Bureau’s Reading Program

Dec. 8, 2023

The Oswego City-County Youth Bureau and SPLASH Indoor Water Park Resort partner on “SPLASH Into Reading,” a new reading incentive program that allows youth to earn free admission to the water park after completing required reading tasks.

“We are honored to be a part of this new partnership and such a fantastic reading program for our youth,” said Kristen Slimmer, program coordinator for “SPLASH Into Reading” and youth activities coordinator for Oswego City-County Youth Bureau. “It’s exciting to have this new indoor water park in our area as something new and fun to do, but I also love that its team is embracing the youth in our community in a positive way by encouraging and rewarding daily reading.”

The program officially launched in November and will continue through the 2023-2024 school year.

“I am so excited and proud to help bring ‘SPLASH Into Reading’ to life,” said Cole McLane, general manager of SPLASH Indoor Water Park. “We hope that the promotion of childhood literacy will have a life-long positive impact on our county’s youth.”

Children must be in pre-K through sixth grade and attend an Oswego County school district, parochial school or home school program to be eligible to participate.

Each day, they are required to read a certain number of pages of age-appropriate books for their grade level. Children will track their daily progress, and each month submit their reading logs to earn a free admission pass to the water park.
