Spend Winter Break at the H. Lee White Maritime Museum

Dec. 22, 2023

The H. Lee White Maritime Museum offers three photography workshops for kids aged 5 to 13 during the school holiday break. The sessions take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26 through Thursday, Dec. 28 at the museum, 1 W. First St. Pier, Oswego.

The interactive workshops will introduce children to both fine art and portrait photography. They are encouraged to bring a cell phone and/or tablet to be used for taking pictures. Polaroid cameras will also be available for use.

On Tuesday, Dec. 26, participants can visit with instructor Michael Murray and his friend Freddy the parrot; a green-wing Macaw parrot who is happy to pose for photos with kids and adults. Murray is an accomplished professional photographer with over 20 years of experience, specializing in landscape environmental portraiture, events and family photography.

Wednesday and Thursday guest photographers are to be announced. Danielle Eason will also be on hand to engage with children in the process of taking pictures and printing them out.

The museum’s historic boats, exhibits and holiday decorations will serve as subjects for the photos.

Admission is $5 per child. The small charge is thanks to sponsorship by Stewart’s Shops. Refreshments will be served.

Space is limited, so reservations are encouraged. For more information or to reserve a space, contact H. Lee White Maritime Museum Director Mercedes Niess at 315-481-6954 or mercedes@hlwmm.org.
