H. Lee White Maritime Museum Expands Kids’ Workshop Program

Dec. 26, 2023

The H. Lee White Maritime Museum expands its kids’ photography workshop program this week to include local photographer Bob Ruggio and an additional date! The sessions, for youth aged 5 to 13 years, continue from 1 to 4 p.m. daily through Friday, Dec. 29 at the museum, 1 W. First St. Pier, Oswego.

Bob Ruggio, a U.S. Navy veteran, SUNY Oswego professor and avid outdoor adventure photographer, will join the winter break fun to lead the sessions scheduled on Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 27 and 28.

The newly added Friday, Dec. 29 workshop will be led by Michael Murray and his friend Freddy the parrot; a green-wing Macaw who is happy to pose for photos with kids and adults. Murray is an accomplished professional photographer with over 20 years of experience, specializing in landscape environmental portraiture, events and family photography.

Danielle Eason will also be on hand all week to engage with children in the process of taking pictures and printing them out.

The interactive workshops will introduce children to both fine art and portrait photography. They are encouraged to bring a cell phone and/or tablet to be used for taking pictures; however, Polaroid cameras will also be available for use. The museum’s historic boats, exhibits and holiday decorations will serve as subjects for the photos.

Admission is “pay-what-you-can” with a suggested offering of $5 per child. The small contribution is thanks to support from Stewart’s Shops. Refreshments will be served.

Space is limited, so reservations are encouraged. For more information or to reserve a space, contact H. Lee White Maritime Museum Director Mercedes Niess at 315-481-6954 or mercedes@hlwmm.org.
