Oswego County Participates in Statewide STOP-DWI Campaign

Feb. 2, 2024

Oswego County STOP-DWI Coordinator David Hall announced that law enforcement agencies and STOP-DWI coordinators will participate in special efforts to bring awareness to the dangers of impaired driving ahead of Super Bowl LVIII. The state’s STOP-DWI “High Visibility Engagement Campaign” runs from Friday, Feb. 9 to Sunday, Feb. 11.

“The Super Bowl is America’s most watched national sporting event and Super Bowl weekend is historically a deadly period for impaired driving,” said Hall. “While we want people to enjoy watching the game with their friends and family, it’s important to remember that drinking and driving is not only against the law, but it can be deadly.

In a combined effort to bring awareness to the dangers of impaired driving, prevent injuries and save lives, law enforcement officers and STOP-DWI program coordinators and staff across New York State will participate in special engagement efforts.

“We want everyone to get home safely, so please do not drive after consuming alcohol and have a plan to get home before you have your first drink,” Hall said. “Everyone can help to make a difference by having a sober plan. Simply download the ‘Have a Plan’ mobile app (www.stopdwi.org/mobileapp) and you will always be able to find a safe ride home.

“Impaired driving is completely preventable,” he added. “All it takes is a little planning.”

The STOP-DWI Super Bowl High Visibility Engagement Campaign is one of many statewide initiatives promoted by STOP-DWI NY and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee to further reduce the incidence of drunk and impaired driving. These campaigns also target Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day/end of summer, Halloween, Thanksgiving, the winter holiday season and St. Patrick’s Day.
