Oswego County Health Department Reports Website Issue

Feb. 7, 2024

The Oswego County Health Department experienced a technical issue last night during a routine upgrade to the county’s website.

Approximately 200 emails were sent to some residents. The emails contained their own outdated COVID-19 paperwork with limited personal information. Health department staff immediately notified Oswego County Central Services (IT) about the issue.

IT found that the problem was not due to a breach from an outside threat, but instead was the result of routine internal system maintenance. During a scheduled upgrade, back-logged emails held in the system were cleared by sending them to the original recipients as requested.

Any resident who received one of these emails from the health department is advised to delete it. No further action is necessary.

Oswego County Central Services reminds all technology users to be aware of suspicious emails and safeguard their personal information.
