Nominate Your ‘Senior of the Year’ by Feb. 28

Feb. 9, 2024

The Oswego County Office for the Aging (OFA) is looking for nominations for its 2024 Senior of the Year recognition. Seniors aged 60 and over who are active volunteers are eligible to be nominated until Wednesday, Feb. 28.

“We have recognized seniors for their volunteerism for 10 years, and each year it is a joy to learn about the great contributions of our older residents,” said OFA Director Sara Sunday. “This year, we are seeking nominations a bit early in order to celebrate our 2024 Senior of the Year during Older Americans Month in May.

“The theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Powered by Connection,’ which recognizes the importance of having meaningful relationships and connections for our health and well-being,” Sunday added. “If you know an older person deserving of the Senior of the Year recognition, we encourage you to submit a nomination form.”

Nomination forms are available at www.oswegocounty.com/ofa under the “Downloadable Forms” link on the left. The form asks for basic information about the nominee and their volunteerism as well as a photo.

Once completed, submissions can be sent to the Oswego County Office for the Aging, 70 Bunner St., Oswego. If more than two nominations are received, the OFA advisory council appoints a committee to review nominations and make selections.

Each year, up to two seniors are recognized locally by the Oswego County Legislature with a certificate presentation at the group’s monthly meeting. All nominees will be acknowledged at the OFA Senior Picnic in August.

The New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA) will also host a recognition ceremony on Tuesday, May 14 at The Egg at the Empire State Plaza in Albany.
