Get Your Child’s Car Seat Checked on Feb. 28

Feb. 16, 2024

The Oswego County Traffic Safety Board offers a free car seat inspection on Wednesday, Feb. 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The safety check takes place during the Community Baby Shower at Catholic Charities of Oswego County, 808 W. Broadway, Fulton.

“We encourage residents to stop by this free event to make sure that their car seat is properly secured and that they’re using the correct seat for their child’s age, weight and height,” said Oswego County Traffic Safety Board Coordinator Katelynn Kron. “Certified child passenger safety technicians will be on hand to ensure car seats are installed properly and answer any questions on car seat safety.”

Appointments are not required for a car seat safety check, which usually takes between 30 and 45 minutes.

New York State law requires all children to be restrained in an appropriate child restraint system while riding in a motor vehicle until they reach their 8th birthday. Children under the age of 2 must ride in a rear-facing car seat.

This car seat event is held by the Oswego County Traffic Safety Board through a grant from the New York State Governors Traffic Safety Committee.

The car seat safety check takes place during Catholic Charities’ free Community Baby Shower, an educational event for new and expecting parents. Attendees can learn more about taking care of their new baby while enjoying a live DJ, a photobooth, raffles, giveaways and light refreshments. For more information about the Community Baby Shower, call Catholic Charities at 315-598-3980.
