Oswego County Responds to Cellular Network Outage

Feb. 22, 2024

Oswego County is responding to a nationwide AT&T cellular network outage this morning. Anyone in Oswego County who cannot reach 911 on their cellular telephones should try another service or go to the nearest fire station or ambulance corps for assistance. If the SOS function on their cell phones is available, people will be able to reach 911 from their cell phones.

Oswego County E-911 Communications Director Kevin Pooley said the center learned the outage began earlier this morning and is reaching out to public safety agencies.

Oswego County Fire Coordinator Shane Laws said the city and volunteer fire departments and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) corps are staffing their stations and communicating with the 911 center through the county’s radio network. Anyone needing to reach the 911 center with medical or life-threatening emergencies can receive help at one of the county’s fire stations.

Oswego County Emergency Management Director Cathleen Palmitesso said her office is working with both agencies and the public safety community to ensure all needs are met.
