Pulaski Art Show Features Medina, Russell and Duquette-Fabian

March 8, 2024

Three local artists display their beautifully different perspectives in the new exhibition, “Interpreting Life and Landscape: Expressions on Paper, Panel and Gourds.”

Sharon Medina, Jerry Russell and Barbara Duquette-Fabian are featured in the free exhibit, now on display at the Salmon River Fine Arts Center, 4848 Jefferson St., Pulaski until Saturday, April 13. Gallery hours run from noon to 6 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

Sharon Medina, a watercolor artist with a strong appreciation for nature and the outdoors, provides a glimpse of the infinite and transient beauty she finds along her many outdoor adventures. She said, “I hope to evoke a sense of wonder for the enchanting and often fleeting moments in nature – like a deer in soft, quiet falling snow or a sunset lighting the trees.”

Jerry Russell, a multi-disciplined artist, has a strong affinity for painting with oil on panels. His work has a calming classic and impressionist influence on viewers. Russell does much of it “en plein air” which means he creates his art “outdoors,” or “in the open air.” This requires him to have a more reactive painting approach since light and shadows are constantly changing, creating a different play of patterns on the landscape moment to moment. Russell has received many awards for his work at juried shows and has displayed in various galleries.

Barbara Duquette-Fabian brings her landscape art to viewers by creating it directly onto gourds. Each dried gourd is carved or sculpted and uniquely painted. She uses a variety of techniques such as pyrography, inks or acrylic paints and incorporates items such as eggshells, leather, feathers, leaves and pine needles. Each imaginative piece is intriguing and begs to be viewed at every angle. Duquette-Fabian is a member of the American Gourd Society, New York Gourd Pepo Patch and the Pennsylvania Gourd Society. She has won many competitive awards across the states of New York and Pennsylvania.

The Salmon River Fine Arts Center is an all-volunteer run, 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that offers community art programs for all ages, hands-on workshops and art shows that help educate and enrich the local community.
