Oswego County Joins Statewide STOP-DWI Effort

March 13, 2024

Oswego County STOP-DWI Coordinator David Hall announced that law enforcement agencies and STOP-DWI coordinators across the state will participate in a special effort to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving. The state’s STOP-DWI St. Patrick’s Day “High Visibility Engagement Campaign” runs from Friday, March 15 through Sunday, March 17.

“Because of the number of celebrations involving alcohol, St. Patrick’s Day weekend is a notoriously deadly period for impaired driving,” said Hall. “While we want people to enjoy the holiday, we also want them to remember that drinking and driving can have serious repercussions for both drivers and others on the road.”

Everyone can help make a difference by having a sober plan. People can download the ‘Have a Plan’ mobile app at www.stopdwi.org/mobileapp, which provides them with a safe ride home.

“If you plan on consuming alcohol, have a plan before you start drinking,” Hall said. “Have a designated driver, call a taxi or walk – please, just don’t drive. Impaired driving is completely preventable. All it takes is a little planning.”

This joint campaign is just one of the many statewide initiatives promoted by STOP-DWI New York and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee to reduce the incidence of drunk and impaired driving, prevent injuries and save lives. High visibility engagement campaigns also target Super Bowl, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day/end of summer, Halloween, Thanksgiving and the winter holiday season.
