Newcomer Mildred “Millie” Grace takes the stage as wedding planner Sedalia Wingate in The Art Scene at CNY Art Center’s production of “Always a Bridesmaid.” The fun-filled adult comedy begins at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, April 5 and 6, and 12 and 13, with matinee performances at 2 p.m. on Sundays, April 7 and 14. The Art Scene at CNY Arts Center is located at 212 Cayuga St., Fulton.

Grace came to The Arts Scene at CNY Arts Center ‘out of the blue’ one night as they were rehearsing the comedy “Always A Bridesmaid.” She had heard about the role of Sedalia Wingate and thought she would give it a shot. Grace was told about the character she would be portraying and read a few lines to director Paul McKinney, who then offered her the part. Although it is a small role, she left that day with a script in hand and a smile on her face.

Over the next few weeks, Grace studied the script and worked diligently during rehearsal to learn her movements on the stage. She laughed along with the other actresses she was playing with and became the ‘true-blue’ Sedalia. When the show opens on April 5, Grace will be acting out one of her life-long dreams.

By trade, Grace is an early primary school teacher, an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter and currently teaches at Onondaga Community College as an instructor in ASL. Owing to her career choices, facial expression and vocal inflection or changes have always been an important part of her daily activities. During her free time, Grace enjoys storytelling, biking and golf. She has been married to her husband Bill for 40 years and they have a son, a daughter and four grandchildren. The family have been long-time members of the CNY Arts Center.

Admission for “Always a Bridesmaid” is $18 for adults and $15 for seniors. The comedy is presented through special arrangements with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York.
